The more I study a plant, the more its unique habit and "tension" becomes apparent. Drawing on my background in cell animation, I was conscious of capturing this tension in each line to convey the delicate yet taut structure of this Begonia. One of my first woodcuts, I drew this from life, transferred the drawing to the board, and scored the lines with a Stanley knife. Hand printed and coloured on Japanese paper.
