Inspired by the detailed botanical drawings of Thomas Warner, this study of Gasteria bicolor seeks to capture the "bones" of the plant—the heavy, sculptural weight of its leaves contrasted against the delicate, reaching arc of its flower spike and its taut tension. The challenge, that also inspired me, was to capture these contrasting qualities and create a balanced composition.
